Here are 6 ideas for strolling and discovering Concarneau.
You don't need car! The departure of all of those walks begin at the holiday house !
Walk in Ville Close.
Only 3 minutes to walk to arrive on Place Duquesne, and you take the ferry-boat 5 minutes' sailing to cross the fairway and landing to la Ville Close :
- "Le carré des larrons", free open-air theatre in summer.
- From "petit château" you can walk on the ramparts. Beautiful view of Concarneau's bay and the fairway.
- Church "la Chapelle" for painters exhibitions and concerts,
- Fishing museum: differents fishing boats, technics, and differents fishing jobs explained with models.
- Visit of the ramparts, the governor's house, exhibitions...
- restaurants and souvenir shops
- Belfry: you get off the ville close and arrive in Concarneau center: Market, sheltered market...
Promenade du Porzou.
From "Place Duquesne",you take the coast path which follow the fairway:
- Very good for jogging at seaside, early in the morning .
- Lovely in the evening for a walk: you'll follow fishing boats going back and admire the sunset;
- During the day you can have a swim or fish from the rocks.
- This walk will lead you to a pretty beach: le Porzou : very pleasant at low tide. Above the beach, the wood "le Porzou" : a very nice shady garden with tables for picnics and games for children.
The harbour tour:
- One hour long for harbour tour: (without stopping at the pub!)
From the ferry quay, you'll discover many different types of ships and shipyards : from the geat motor or sailing yachts, or IMOCA and others big sailing racers that are built and fitted here.
- Then different types of marine vessels such as tugs, dredgers, 80m long tunaships,supply ships, ...) on the slipway, then trawlers, netters, fishing boats quays ...you'll arrive in the center of Concarneau : at the end , dundees and other oldgaffers... If you are lucky you'll assist to the launching boat? You can visit with a guide in all security
- Return by the Ville Close and the ferry! But, why not test a Brittany beer in a pub before coming back?
Seaside walk
The very nice beaches of le Cabellou are all different ,"la Belle Etoile" is a very sheltered one very interesting at hign water. The coast path will let you discover a lot of little quiet beaches between large round rocks that children like to jump from!Very nice view of the bay at Cabellou's fort.
Walk le Moros
It's a very quiet tour around the lake of about 2 hours . Seabirds, castles, woods, and a nice place for fishing too ...
La corniche
In the opposite side of la ville close, la corniche is an easy walk along the seaside, with a beautiful view : From Beg Meil's point to Trévignon's point you can see all the bay and les Glénan on the horizon line.
The Marinarium's visit with it's aquarium's, the church " de la Croix" remembers seamen lost at sea, the "quai nul" very good for fishing, woodcarving all along the way ... and at the end two nice beaches and then the coastal path goes on, leaving Concarneau and going to Fouesnant! ....
Are you a hiker?
The coastal path is only 300m away from the gite; It's an ideal stopping place for a couple of days. Small shops nearby and bicycles available on site.
